Just such a shame that so many people who are otherwise solid Bible-believers are unable to realise the contrived nature of this supposed consilience of evidence around these ages...I'm quite convinced that if this was more widely-known, especially by those who haven't yet committed themselves to a position (a la Hugh Ross), then the various nonsense compromise positions (day-age, gap, framework, etc.) would be practically lanced on-the-spot.Although they call that calibration it is a misuse of the term. What you say is not relevant to the issue of radioactive dating. You have a definite age from the time you were born. Again, it has a definite age from when it was completed. The method claims to determine the time since a specific event in the past, such as when a rock solidified, or when it was metamorphosed, or when it was altered. Why is it that the 'dates' agree with each other if they're wrong? You would have to look up the ANU paper to get the details.Such a view was not good for the first Australians. Many atrocities were perpetrated on Aboriginal communities because of these evolutionary beliefs. As the article documents, geologists have no qualms with rejecting dates they do not think are correct, no matter how much the different methods agree.
Yes, there has been a lot of work done measuring and documenting the isotopes in the earth's crust. As you can imagine this is an enormous task and their interpretations depend on the assumptions that are made about how the earth formed and what happened to it over its history.
There is no object where its age is known beyond historical times. Whatever dating methods are measuring, it's not "age" in the customary sense.
But they do check one method agains the other in order to get a consistent set of numbers. It may or may not even signal the passage of time, if material is being leached in or out of the sample. How closely did the electron-spin resonance (ESR), optically-stimulated luminescence (OSL), thorium-uranium (Th/U) and protactinium-uranium (Pa/U) dates for Mungo Man ressemble each other?
With more information than ever before, Christians can stand tall because the Word of God is real, authoritative and accurate.
Your support is vital in keeping this site going and growing. They are not 'calibrated' in the sense that engineers use the trerm whereby they confirm the measurement accuracy against something where the value is known.
